Graphic design has never been more relevant to medical and scientific publishing than it is today. I provide graphic design of visual and graphical abstracts, preparation of figures for publication in medical and scientific journals, and design of posters for academic conferences.

Visual abstracts

Visual abstracts (also known as graphical abstracts) are concise visual summaries of scientific research, intended to convey the same information found in a text abstract of a research article.

Visual abstracts are now an indispensable aspect of disseminating research online, quickly alerting potential readers to the relevance of your research. I take your draft design and create a visually appealing, journal-specific graphical representation of your research.

If you chose me to copyedit your paper, I’d be the perfect choice of designer to carry your ideas into the visual realm.

Publication-ready figures

Stringent specifications apply when preparing manuscript figures for publication.

For example, Cell Press requires that each figure fit on a single 8.5” x 11” page; should be submitted as separate image files rather than be embedded in the manuscript; should, at initial submission, use the preferred file formats TIFF or PDF, but may also be accepted as JPEG or EPS files (though, PDF file size should be less than 3 MB); should, at final production, be submitted as high-resolution files, color, black an white, and line-art figures at resolutions of 300, 500, and 1,000 dpi, respectively; and the list of specifications goes on.

Many of these figure specifications require specialized graphic design knowledge, and likely represent an unexpected hurdle to you as you approach submission of your paper. I can help prepare publication-ready figures, ensuring a smoother submission process.

Scientific symposium posters

Poster presentations offer an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to showcase their research and to hone communication and networking skills. A visually appealing and engaging poster design is key to highlighting this work and establishing invaluable connections.

Scientific posters combine the principles of text-based and visual abstracts, following IMRAD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) to appropriately summarize research, and employing engaging and captivating graphical illustrations to catch the eye of fellow conferencegoers.

I take your draft design and create a visually appealing poster that shows your research in its best light. I can also copyedit the text content of your poster to a specific style guide.
