Michael Moore

Hello! I’m Michael Moore, film makercopyeditor and medical editor.

I hold a Specialized Certificate in Copyediting from UC San Diego and an AMWA Certificate in Medical Editing from the American Medical Writers Association.

I edit using The Chicago Manual of Style and the AMA Manual of Style; when I am feeling particularly British, I use the New Oxford Style Manual.

I am a member of the San Diego Professional Editors Network (SD/PEN)—where I serve as VP of Membership Development on its board of directors; a member of The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA); a member of The American Copy Editors Society (ACES); and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA).

Choosing between passions for music and science, I studied music at Newcastle University, in the UK, with an undergraduate focus on performance—I’m a cellist—and a graduate focus in musicology.

During my graduate studies I moved to Cambridge, and later London, and began campaigning for electoral reform and on human rights issues. Working and volunteering for numerous NGOs, I honed my skills in persuasive campaign copywriting, copyediting, and proofreading.

I moved to the United States in 2020 and later started working as a copyeditor and medical editor, mostly in the pharmaceutical industry.

I enjoy working across the breadth of my expertise: medical and life sciences editing; academic editing, particularly in the field of musicology; and social and political campaign copywriting and editing. It is my broad experience in the humanities and in science that makes me the copyeditor for the job.

My recent projects include copyediting research manuscripts for peer review, genetic medicines clinical trial protocols for submission to the FDA (US), EMA (EU), PMDA (Japan), and other global health bodies, and a patient safety manual for medical practices.

Please get in touch if you are in need of a positively uncompromising editor.
